"I need a job to get experience; I need experience to get a job. Lame."
Following the successes of last year's Challenge, the yMedia Challenge 2008 is in full swing to help fix this conundrum faced by so many students.
The yMedia Challenge is a two week competition that matches students with community groups, helping community groups get a head-start in the digital space and providing opportunities for that much needed experience that is so often demanded of graduates entering the workforce for the first time. It was created in July 2007 by the yMedia Group, a social enterprise born in the same year.

Websites offering passive content are “yesterday’s technology”, says Pamela Minett of yMedia, a company formed to help media graduates make contact with the industry, and one of the "youth" delegates at the conference.

Real world experience can be hard to get in the dog-eat-dog digital domain - but two graduates have made their own solution.
Keen to apply their skills to quality projects, Pamela Minett and Adele Barlow set up a group called yMedia to 'create more effective relationships for students integrating real-world experience and industry links to media training institutions'.
It also turned into a win-win project for students and non-profit organisations. More >>
Congratulations to the winners of the yMedia Challenge 2007
Nathan and Red spent their two weeks in the YouthLaw offices teaching them everything they knew about reaching young people (their target market) and how to make best use of technology to help the organisation internally. They experimented with a wide range of tools and technologies.

Get a head start in the
digital space
