Who are yMedia?

The yMedia Group (or 'yMedia') was founded in May 2007 by Pamela Minett and Adele Barlow.

yMedia's vision is: To maximise the positive impact of young people through the use of media and technology.

yMedia's mission(s):

To catalyse innovation and new uses of ICT that bring about social change
To increase knowledge and use of ICT among the community sector
To improve the image of ICT to young people, in order to attract potential students and graduates into the industry

Since 2007, the yMedia team has grown to include past students, volunteers and advisors. The yMedia Challenge 2008 Management Team is profiled below.

Pamela Minett (Director, Co-founder, General Manager)
Pamela graduated with top industry standards from Media Design School in 2006. Upon graduating, she accepted the role of web developer at Touchpoint where she worked for 9 months before resigning to dedicate more time to yMedia. She is currently working 2 days a week for Telecom's Research and Venturing team.

Adele Barlow (Director, Co-founder, R&D Manager)
Adele is currently completing her (extramural) Honours degree at the University of Melbourne, specializing in Media and Communications. Her thesis examines how NPOs can use digital media to leverage their profile among an increasingly individualised younger generation. She is due to complete this in June and will then be dedicating herself full time to yMedia for the remainder of 2008.

Nathan Champion (Relationships Manager)
Finishing off his last year of a degree in Communications and International Relations at Unitec, Nathan has joined yMedia as a relationships manager. He successfully completed the yMedia Challenge in 2007, working with YouthLaw to develop their online presence. Upon completion of the Challenge he was awarded a 6 week internship at Saatchi & Saatchi and is still working with YouthLaw one day a week.

Anthea Whittle (Connector and Digital Architect)
Having completed a diploma of Digital Media at Media Design School in 2007 and successfully completing the yMedia Challenge 07, Anthea has taken on a junior project management role at Auckland-based interactive media company, Terabyte. In 2008 she will be responsible, with support from Terabyte, for the development and support of the yMedia Challenge 08's online presence.

JadE Tang (Connector and Art Director)
JadE joined the management team in 2007 and was responsible for the organisation of the awards dinner (held very successfully in October 07) and the printing and designing of most materials. In 2008 she will take on a liaison role between tertiary institutions and yMedia as well as overseeing much of the design work.

Janet Mazenier (Director, Advisor)
Janet was recently the NZ Digital Strategy Programme Manager for the Ministry of Economic Development and now works as a consultant to public and private sector clients including MED, SSC and ACC. Well known within the ICT industry, Janet is an advocate for ICT and what it means to enabling business growth and empowering individuals and communities. Janet is a guiding director for yMedia.
